Back in 2004 Spellbound Music were preparing for the annual Newcastle Musofest when they were approached by some musicians in the Metal genre. They posed the question to put on a dedicated metal festival in Newcastle and, with some hard selling, got a yes from the Spellbound Team. 8th of May 2004 at the House of Steel(Marquis O'Lorne Hotel) was our first festival. Commencing at 12 noon and ending Midnight it was a big surprise to see so many people eager to get in early and most were there for the entire festival. The quality of all the artists on the day was amazing and the sponsors along with venue management gave positive feedback for a second event. Metal Bloody Metal 2 was seen as a true test of viability. It did not coincide with Musofest and needed to be a stand alone festival. Artist from interstate were invited to perform and a surprised Spellbound team found themselves inundated with performer applications. The amount of interest generated was pleasing and had those ever valuable sponsors grinning with delight. Once again the House of Steel was the venue and was at capacity by mid afternoon. So the question was to move to larger premises for the next event or not. 2005 and the lead up to our next Metal Fest left us in no doubt to try a larger venue. So it moved to the Central Coast town of Toukley, NSW, and held at the Beachcomber Hotel. After just a week of announcing the move pre ticket sales were done and certainly gave a sigh of relief to those who had second thoughts on the issue. It was packed to the rafters but we certainly wern't ready for what was to follow. So many quality artists missed the billing and many festival goer's wanted Newcastle as the home to MBM. So on October 8th 2005 MBM 4 was staged back at the House of Steel and what a full on 12hrs it was. The venue was abuzz and even the outer perimeter of the venue was full of action as well. Stall holders with food and merchandise added a carnival atmosphere to the event and a guitar signed by the artists was raffled off. It seems that metal Bloody Metal is here to stay. We would like to thank all of our festival goer's for their continued patronage and also to the sponsors without whom events like these would be impossable to stage. See you at the next Metal Bloody Metal................................ |
