High Stakes High Stakes play original, powerful, passionate hard rock with traces of old school metal and punk.
This is not a studio outfit jumping on a bandwagon. The music is real and full of heart. It has evolved from years of live performance and cuts through the current trend-driven, fashion dominated popular rock scene.
Earlier in 2004 the four original members quit their jobs, left their families and their hometown of Adelaide . They headed for Sydney , looking for adventure and excitement settling somewhere near Berowra. High Stakes second EP “Boots and Cuts” is now released through MGM distribution.
Recorded by veteran producer Buzz Bidstrup (The Angels and GANGgajang ) at Harry Vandas' Flashpoint studios Sydney , “Boots and Cuts” combines the bands love of classic Oz rock with musical influences of their youth. Considering the band members grew up in such diverse places as Texas , Rome and New Guinea , this gives High Stakes a very distinctive voice indeed. They call it “full tilt slam rock”
"Always nice to hear a young Aussie band bowing to its Oz Rock influences in their quest to give their audience a cardio-arrest." - Christie Eliezer, Billboard.
“High Stakes put on a powerful show at the Corner Hotel, full of high-energy youthful antics and nu-breed oz power-rock, Zeitgeist, punch.” – Michael Liddell, Beat magazine.
